Teacher Residency Licensure

Program Overview

Start your teaching career with Johnston Community College’s Elementary Education Residency Licensure program. Designed for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in a non-education field, this program lets you begin teaching while earning your licensure. You’ll gain the skills and knowledge needed to become a confident, effective elementary educator in North Carolina’s public and charter schools.

Admission Requirements

  • Letter of employment or placement offer from the Public School Unit (PSU) or Local Education Agency (LEA)
  • Have completed a bachelor’s degree with a 2.7 GPA or higher.
  • Completed 24 credit hours or NCSBE exam(s) in requested licensure subject area.

Through coursework and hands-on experience, you’ll gain practical teaching skills and a deep understanding of how children learn. You’ll learn how to:
