Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Spring EMT– 2025
Thank you for your interest in the initial Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course.
During the Spring semester, Johnston Community College will host three (3) different
EMT courses. Each course consists of 240 hours of didactic, lab, Technical Scope of
Practice Evaluations (TSOPs) & exams. In addition, students must complete a minimum
of 48 hours in the clinical or field setting, along with ten (10) successful patient
assessments. These courses meet North Carolina Office of EMS (NCOEMS) and National
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education Standards.
Course orientation will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 6pm or Thursday,
December 19, 2024 at 10am for the Day and Night course. Online orientation for the
Hybrid course will begin on January 2, 2025. Course registration will be completed
during the orientation session. Late registration is available until the first day
of class.
Course Information:
- 01F – Day Course: Class scheduled from January 15, 2025 until May 4, 2025. Students attend class on
Wednesday’s from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Students are required to attend some occasional
weekends per the course schedule.
- 02F – Night Course: Class scheduled from January 14, 2025 until May 4, 2025. Students attend class on
Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Students are required to attend
some occasional weekends per the course schedule.
- 03F – Hybrid Course: Class scheduled from January 27, 2025 until May 4, 2025. Students complete class assignments
online. Students are required to attend some occasional weekends per the course schedule.
Cost: Payment in the form of cash, a money order, credit card or personal check may be made to the business office at JCC or online through the payment after registration for the following items:
- $180 Registration fee (unless fee waived through affiliation with a department)
- $19 Clinical Liability Coverage
Additional required fees:
- $10.50 for AHA CPR equipment and card (collected online via provided link prior to course)
- $15 for EVOS Certification (collected online via provided link prior to course)
- $122 for criminal background check, drug screening and immunization document manager prior to start of clinical time through college approved vendor
- $20 for approved college EMS uniform shirt to be warn during class and clinical rotations (remainder of clinical uniform including tactical pants, belt, and footwear, students will purchase on their own)
- $85 Platinum planner/EMS testing subscription
- $150 (average cost) for textbook: AAOS Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured 12th Edition (Textbook only, workbook not required)
Course Prerequisites
- High School Diploma / GED or successful completion of an entrance exam assessing reading comprehension and English language skills at 11th grade level.
- Students must be 17 years of age prior to the end of class
- Valid Driver’s License required for EVOS course.
