EMS Advanced Training

At Johnston Community College, we offer Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Advanced Training to help you gain the skills and certifications needed for success in emergency medical services. Whether you're starting as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or advancing to a Paramedic, our training programs prepare you for real-world emergency situations.

Requirements (may vary)

  • Must have High School Diploma / GED OR
  • Entrance exam in reading comprehnsion and English Language 11th grade level
  • Successful completion of college-leve ENG 111 and MAT 110 or written assessment
  • Must be 17 years old prior to end of class
  • Valid and active NC EMT credential, NRENT or other states EMS credential
  • Current Basic Life Support Card
  • Criminal Background/Drug Screen/Physical Examination/Immunizations

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

Start your Emergency Medical Services (EMS) journey with our Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course, designed to teach you the basics of pre-hospital emergency care. You’ll learn how to assess patients, provide life-saving interventions, and support Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and paramedics in the field. This course prepares you for the North Carolina State Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification exam.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Take your training to the next level with our Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program, where you'll learn advanced patient care techniques, including airway management, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and trauma response. This course prepares you to take the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) exam and qualify for state certification.

EMT to Advanced EMT (AEMT)

If you're already an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification, our Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) certification, our training allows you to expand your skills in intravenous (IV) therapy, medication administration, and advanced airway management. This course prepares you for the National Registry Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT-AEMT) exam and state licensure.

Already have an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification? The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Bridge Program helps you transition from Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), providing you with the skills and knowledge needed to qualify for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification exam.

EMT to Paramedic

Take the final step in your Emergency Medical Services (EMS) career by training to become a Paramedic. Our program focuses on Advanced Life Support (ALS), pharmacology, cardiac care, and critical care transport. Upon completion, you'll be eligible to take the National Registry Paramedic (NRP) exam and obtain your state paramedic certification.
