Welcome to the Johnston Community College Child Development Center

If you're looking for high-quality child care and early education in Johnston County, you’ve come to the right place! At the Johnston Community College (JCC) Child Development Center, your child will be cared for in a safe, loving, and enriching environment while learning and growing every day.

5-Star Child Care Center

As a 5-star licensed child care center in North Carolina—the highest rating a center can receive—you can feel confident that your child is getting the best early education possible. We’re also proud to be nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). In fact, we’re the only child care center in Johnston County with this national recognition!

Our center is located right on the JCC campus and serves children ages 1 to 5 years old. It's more than just a daycare—it’s a lab school and model center where early childhood professionals are trained to provide top-quality care and education.

We welcome all families—whether you’re connected to Johnston Community College or live in the surrounding community. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, nationality, age, disability, or creed.

Accreditation

The JCC Child Development Center is NAEYC Accredited.

Since 1985, NAEYC has offered a national, voluntary accreditation system to set professional standards for early childhood education programs, and to help families identify high-quality programs. Today, NAEYC Accreditation represents the mark of quality in early childhood education. Over 8,000 childcare programs, preschools, early learning centers, and other center- or school-based early childhood education programs are currently NAEYC-Accredited. These programs provide high quality care and education to nearly one million young children in the United States, its territories, and programs affiliated with the United States Department of Defense.

As an integrated part of the college, the mission of JCC Child Development Center is to create a living, functioning example of early childhood education "best practices." In this way, we meet the needs of the families we serve by providing the best possible environment for our children to learn and grow. We also meet the needs of the college and the community at large, by helping train teachers to work with young children in a caring, respectful, and enriching way. Our goal is to provide the best care possible for young children, and to help Early Education Students become next generation of Early Education Professionals.

The Johnston Community College Child Development Center was established in 1998 as an extension of the Early Childhood Education department to serve the needs of students in the program, as well as parents attending classes at the college and community families who need quality care for their children during working hours. Since then we have grown from one classroom of preschoolers to a child care program for toddlers to preschoolers. Each semester, Our CDC hosts a number of JCC Early Childhood Education adult students completing their "practicum" course, as well as other adult student in other academic disciplines who want to learn more about the growth and development of young children from JCC and surrounding universities.

JCC provides a warm, safe and secure environment for young children. Our caring and professional teaching staff guide children through in-depth studies of real-world topics that interest them. Each unit of study is child initiated and teachers provide interactive learning experiences that motivate children to be actively involved in their own learning, leading them to produce high-quality work and to grow as individuals and collaborators. We also strive to promote the intellectual, physical, mental, social and emotional development of each child in our care. In this development, we consider ourselves partners with families in the nurturing of children and we believe that this partnership encourages the highest level of growth.

The teacher’s role is to provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences that promote each child’s growth and development.
