The EdReady placement test helps determine your readiness for college-level English and math or if you need transitional support. It’s an important first step in setting you up for success at JCC.

Testing is by appointment only on JCC’s main campus.
Appointments are made through the online scheduler (sent via email if testing is needed).
Valid photo ID is required.
No walk-ins allowed.

What to Expect on Test Day
Plan for 2–4 hours (some take longer).
Arrive 15 minutes early.
Bring a government-issued photo ID.
Calculators, scratch paper, and pencils are provided.
No phones, smartwatches, or food allowed.
Retesting Policy
You may retest once, with a 10-day wait between attempts.
Use study resources before retesting.
First-time testers are prioritized.
Score Reports & Questions
Get your results immediately after testing.
Request to send your scores using the Release of Placement Test Scores form.
Students with disabilities can request accommodations through Accessibility Services. Pre-approval is required.
Students applying to JCC Health Science programs must take the TEAS exam. Prep materials are available through ATI and the JCC Library. Testing is scheduled from September–February.

How to Register
Option 1: Online through ATI
Register and pay through your ATI account.
Make sure your profile lists Johnston CC ADN as your institution.
Option 2: On Campus at JCC
Confirm you meet Health Science admission requirements.
Be admitted to JCC and have your student ID number.
Create an ATI account and bring your login info on test day.
Pay the $70 test fee at the Cashier’s Office or call (919) 209-2165.
Johnston Community College is a national test center for the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), which offers online computerized testing for college course credit.
Register for CLEP:
Please complete all steps at least 48 hours before your test date. Walk-in testing is not allowed.Exams that include an essay have an additional $10 fee and require up to four weeks to order the written portion from College Board.

Scores and Retesting
Certain members of the U.S. Armed Services, veterans, their spouses, and civilian employees may be eligible for Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) funding to take a CLEP exam. Proper military ID is required on the day of testing. All DANTES eligible service members will still be required to pay JCC's administrative fee of $15.
Earn credit for what you already know! JCC offers the DANTES Subject Standardized Test to help students and community members receive credit for prior learning.

Johnston Community College awards college credit for students who successfully meet the minimum required score for the College Board's Advanced Placement (AP) test program. Credit for an AP exam can be awarded upon the receipt of an official score report mailed directly from the College Board.
A student score report will not be accepted as an official document for credit approval. You may order your AP score report from the College Board's website through your student account.
