Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (must remain valid for the entire course).

Two-step Tuberculosis skin test.

Up-to-date immunizations, including:

Hepatitis B (or signed waiver)

Measles, Mumps, and Rubella

Varicella (Chickenpox)

Tetanus (within last 10 years)

Seasonal Influenza (flu shot)

 

Required at all times during class, labs & clinicals.

Must wear student uniform to class.

Must wear white nonskid leather shoes.

Must wear a Name Badge.

Must have a Stethoscope.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is Mandatory. Missing more than eight hours of class, lab, or clinical time may result in dismissal.

Makeup assignments are required for the amount of time missed up to 8 hours.

Punctuality is Required. Students are considered tardy one minute after the scheduled start time.

Grading Policy

Minimum Passing Score: 78% (no rounding of grades).

Students must pass ALL components (classroom, lab, and clinical) to successfully complete the course.

Refund and Withdrawal Policy

100% Refund if withdrawing before the first class.

75% Refund if withdrawing within the first 10% of the class duration.

Transfers to another section depend on availability.

Your Uniform: The Professional Appearance Policy

1. Your uniform is distinctive and is representative of the Continuing Education Health Sciences Programs of Johnston Community College. Your uniform identifies you as a student of the Continuing Education Health Sciences Programs and indicates to others many of your individual and professional standards. Carelessness in professional appearance indicates carelessness in other aspects. Students must wear uniforms to class, lab and clinical.
2. Your uniform is always to be clean, neat, ironed and well fitting. If weight changes or shrinkage occurs, uniforms are to be altered accordingly. The uniform is to be of an attractive and workable length. No extremes will be permitted.
3. I.D. badge is to be worn on chest. Students shall not be in the clinical area without I.D. badge.
4. Shoes and laces must always be clean. A nonskid, leather white shoe for NA/CVT programs and black leather, Nonskid for Phlebotomy which provides good support is required no shoes can be higher than 1 1/2". NO open toe or open heel shoes. No bold colors or canvas shoes are allowed.
5. Hose are to be worn with a uniform skirt and socks are to be worn with pants with shoes. Uniform top and pants are preferred uniform from school adopted uniform in Caribbean blue.
6. Never wear your uniform where it will make you conspicuous. Change immediately after returning from class/clinical. When in doubt about when or where to wear your uniform, consult your instructor.
7. While in uniform, hair must be clean and neat. If hair touches the collar or if it falls in the face, the student must keep hair pulled back or up while in clinical assignments. Nails must be cleaned, short, and no nail polish is allowed. No artificial nails or false eyelashes or items that may impede student from wearing face masks or face shields are allowed. Students are allowed to wear one ring and one stud earring in each ear. No ear ring bars and gauges allowed. Hair must also be of natural color, no pink, green, blue, purple, red colors etc. are allowed. Dreadlocks must be tied back, also. No caps, wraps or headdresses are allowed.
8. Wear one traditional watch with second hand. No smart watches allowed in the clinical setting
9. No other jewelry allowed. No visible body, tongue or facial piercing allowed.
10. Conduct yourself at all times as a professional person. Use moderation in tone of voice and laughter. Be courteous, understanding, kind and considerate to your fellow students, staff, doctors, and patients and people-in-general. Remember that while you are in uniform, you are representing your school and your profession. This is an honor, an opportunity and an obligation.
11. If uniform is torn or in poor condition you will be required to purchase a new uniform.
12. Students may wear white crew-neck (round) shirt with their clinical uniform (long sleeve or short sleeve). No print on undershirts. All students wearing undershirts MUST be tucked in.
13. Perfumes/Colognes and scented lotions may not be worn.
14. All tattoos must be covered any location on the body. If using a sleeve to cover, sleeves must be white. 

    
    You must also adhere to your assigned clinical dress code policies which will be discussed at your clinical orientation.
    If a student should fail to follow the dress code policy on any shift:

    1. First violation, during the semester the student will be verbally warned and a written report of the violation will be placed on file by the Instructor.
    2. Second violation, if student fails to comply, dismissal from class will be afforded.
