The Pharmacy Technician training program prepares you to assist licensed pharmacists in hospital and retail settings. This course covers essential skills for drug preparation and dispensing under pharmacist supervision.
If you successfully complete the course—meeting age and education requirements—you will be eligible to apply for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam.
In this program, you’ll build the core skills pharmacy technicians use every day. You’ll learn how pharmacies operate, how medications are prepared and handled safely, and how to follow laws and ethical standards while supporting pharmacists and patients. Key areas of study include:
Pharmacy Operations – Learn how a pharmacy runs, including workflow, inventory control, and customer service.
Pharmaceutical Terminology & Medications – Understand common medical and pharmacy terms, drug names, and medication classifications.
Dosage Calculations – Practice accurate math skills used to measure and calculate medication doses.
Compounding & Sterile Techniques – Learn how medications are prepared safely, including basic compounding and sterile procedures.
Pharmacy Laws & Ethics - Study the legal and ethical rules that guide pharmacy practice and protect patient safety.
Once you complete the program you can pursue entry-level roles such as:
Retail Pharmacy Technician – Assist pharmacists in filling prescriptions, helping customers, and managing daily pharmacy operations in retail settings.
Hospital Pharmacy Technician – Prepare and deliver medications for patients in hospitals while working closely with pharmacists and healthcare teams.
Long-Term Care Facility Technician – Support medication preparation and distribution for residents in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) Technician – Help process prescription claims, manage drug coverage, and support insurance and benefits operations.
Compounding Pharmacy Technician – Prepare customized medications by mixing ingredients to meet specific patient needs under pharmacist supervision.
