Requirements

  • 18 years or older
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien
  • NC Resident or nonresident with a regular place of work in NC
  • Able to read, write, and speak English
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • No felony conviction in 10 years

A notary public is a public officer appointed by the state to serve as an impartial witness to document signings, verifying identities, administering oaths, and ensuring document integrity, preventing fraud.

Courses Offered

  • Notary Public Certification (Seated/Online): Approved by the North Carolina Secretary of State, covering legal and procedural guidelines. Held at Johnston County Workforce Development Center.
    • Estimated cost: $95 (manual not included)
  • Electronic Notary Certification (Online Only): For commissioned notaries to become certified as e-Notaries.
    • Estimated cost: $90 (manual not included)

If your employer is to be billed, complete both the Student Sponsorship Form and Continuing Education registration form and submit both forms to jccceregistrar@johnstoncc.edu. If a sponsorship form is not submitted, any applicable refund will be issued directly to the student.
