You must be employed at a licensed inspection station and hold a valid North Carolina driver's license.
You must register in advance. Course dates are subject to change; preregistered students will receive email notifications regarding any adjustments.

Additional Requirements
Automotive Safety Inspection
Must be 18 or older
Ability to read and understand English
No prior mechanical experience required
On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) Emissions Inspection
Must already be certified in NC Safety Inspection
Valid driver’s license
Ability to work with diagnostic scan tools
You must submit a competed LT-310 Action Form (PDF) for Inspector/Mechanic Certification or Renewal, signed by an authorized individual from your inspection station, on the first day of class.
Your employer must complete the Student Sponsorship Template (PDF) on company letterhead.
The form must be signed and submitted along with your registration form.

Course Highlights
This course prepares students to inspect motor vehicles under North Carolina’s Safety
Inspection guidelines. It covers:
NC DMV regulations for safety inspections
Proper use of inspection equipment
Step-by-step inspection procedures
Documentation and reporting requirements
Outcome
You will be eligible to take the NC Safety Inspector Licensing Exam. Upon passing, you can conduct state-mandated safety inspections at licensed inspection
stations.

This course trains you in the proper procedures for On-Board Diagnostics (OBD II) Emissions Inspections, mandated by the state of North Carolina. Topics include:
Overview of emissions control systems
OBD II test procedures
Diagnosing emissions failures
Regulatory compliance and documentation
