When I first came to JCC, I was very nervous about starting college and unsure of what my future would look like. But from the very beginning, the faculty made me feel incredibly welcome. I never felt like I was a burden when I had questions–there was always a person with a smile on their face, ready to help. I’ve had some of the best instructors who were highly passionate when they were teaching. It made me excited to come to class and receive an education here at JCC.
In the spring of 2023, my friend–who was an ambassador at the time–encouraged me to apply to be a Student Ambassador. I was hesitant at first, but after talking to the advisor, I decided to apply. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. This program has helped me grow into a confident professional. It has taught me what it means to be a representative, and how to connect with faculty and students. I’ve had the honor to be a part of this program for two years and worked with determined and enthusiastic individuals. The most meaningful part of being a Student Ambassador is being able to help a student when they were beginning their college journey. I wanted to deliver the same kindness and care that JCC faculty extended to me when I first started.
What I love most about JCC is how student-oriented it is. Whether it is an instructor or someone from student engagement, everyone genuinely wants feedback from students to improve the college experience. JCC treats each person as a unique individual, not just a number. The college works hard to host student events that promote student engagement and foster a sense of community, rather than treating the campus as just a place for education. I can confidently say that JCC listens to each student’s voice in its mission to continuously improve student opportunities.
I will be graduating with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing this spring. I am currently in a dually enrolled baccalaureate nursing program called RIBN, where I hope to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree by the spring of 2026.
