North Carolinians who are unemployed or underemployed can look to Johnston Community College for fee-waived workshops and classes to help them get back to work. The three-semester continuing education program is designed to teach students the skills they need to work in a professional salon. The bilingual program will be taught by both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking instructors.

The Johnston County EMS has donated an ambulance to the Johnston Community College EMS program. The ambulance comes just in time, as state regulations will change in January, requiring a higher level of training in ambulance driving for certification. This ambulance will allow JCC to continue producing highly trained EMS personnel for the workforce.

Johnston Community College has been awarded a $185,994 grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation to address a significant unmet need for qualified fabricators in the region.
Five area employers have identified more than 100 existing and 130 new fabrication positions that currently need to be filled. The college will establish a new fabrication program and become a Certified Education Center through the Fabricators and Manufacturer's Association.
