SMITHFIELD, N.C. (April 24, 2026) – Johnston Community
College had an extraordinary showing at the recent North Carolina College Student Government
Association (N4CSGA) conference. Earning recognition across several prestigious award
categories and electing two of our very own into statewide leadership roles. The results
reflect the dedication, leadership, and community spirit that students and advisors
bring to campus life every day.
Stephanie Pano earned both the Ray Jeffries Award and Bryan Pugh Awards, which speaks to the extraordinary impact she has made through her involvement in student government. Pano is the current Public Information Officer for JCC’s Student Government Association. Barbara Sixtos was honored with the Eddie Myers Award and was a well-deserved win. Sixtos serves as the SGA President for JCC. SGA Advisor, Destiny Chambers, walked away with the Advisor of the Year award. The award serves as recognition of the outstanding mentorship and guidance she provides to student leaders.
Another meaningful recognition for JCC was the Top "C" Campus award, given to the institution that best embodies the community values shared across North Carolina's 58 community colleges. This honor is earned through demonstrated SGA involvement, campus programming, and active outreach into the broader community, all areas where JCC has invested intentionally this year.
Adding to an already remarkable day, Stephanie Pano was elected President of N4CSGA, a statewide leadership role that puts a JCC student at the helm of the organization representing community college students across North Carolina. Gabriel Robertson, JCC SGA Vice President, was also selected as N4CSGA's Public Information Officer, furthering the college's influence at the state level.
Johnston Community College takes great pride in the accomplishments of this group, whose commitment to service and leadership exemplifies the very best of our institution
