Are You Ready for Online Learning?

Online classes offer flexibility and convenience, but they also take commitment and the right tools. Here's how you can find out if online learning is right for you — and how to prepare for success. 

Take our Online Readiness Quiz to see if an online class fits your learning style and schedule. Be sure to talk this over with your Advisor.

You should be able to:

  • Type and use a mouse
  • Write and format documents
  • Join online discussions and video calls
  • Install software
Recommended Devices
  • Computer with Windows 10+ or Macbook with macOS 10.12+
  • 2.0 GHz processor or faster
  • 8 GB RAM or more
  • 256 GB+ storage
  • Webcam, microphone, reliable internet
  • Chrome or Firefox browser

    Avoid: Chromebooks – many tools won’t work on them. 

 

Required Software:
  • Office 365 (Free with your JCC email):
    • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams
  • PDF Reader:
    • Adobe Reader
  • Others (as needed):
    • Respondus LockDown Browser, SafeAssign, OneNote, OneDrive

      Mobile Devices: OK for some tasks, not for full courses or tests.

This extra layer of protection helps keep your data safe, even if someone gets your password.
