Artificial Intelligence Guidelines

AI Statement

Johnston Community College shall use AI responsibly to empower students and employees to enhance learning and work, foster curiosity, and prepare our college community for a future where humans and technology thrive together. The college is committed to ethical, human-centered, transparent, and accessible implementation of new technologies that are clearly understood and openly communicated across campus.

AI Principles

  • Human-Centered Use: AI should support, not replace, relationships. Human judgment should be the core focus, with AI used to strengthen, not substitute, critical thinking.
  • Future Readiness & Curiosity: AI is essential to education and workforce preparedness, and its use should encourage exploration, curiosity, and skill-building for the future of work.
  • Ethical, Transparent, and Secure Implementation: AI must be used responsibly and ethically, ensuring all have equal access to tools, resources, and guidance so that they can benefit from emerging technologies and use them thoughtfully and responsibly.  Additionally, AI must be implemented with a commitment to accuracy, transparency, and clear communication, while safeguarding data privacy and student security.
  • Continuous Adaptation: Policies and practices should evolve alongside technological advancements to ensure AI remains effective, relevant, and aligned with institutional values.
