Johnston Community College (JCC) offers a comprehensive selection of Emergency & Life Support Training Courses, equipping healthcare professionals, first responders, and the public with essential skills to handle medical emergencies.

Basic & Advanced Life Support (BLS & AMLS)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): Designed for healthcare providers such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, and others who need to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in various settings.
  • Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS): Suitable for all levels of practitioners committed to patient care, including first responders, EMTs, paramedics, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurse anesthetists, and physicians, focusing on the assessment and management of patients with medical emergencies.

Cardiac & Advanced Life Support

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS): Intended for healthcare professionals who manage cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies, including emergency response personnel, emergency medicine staff, intensive care, and critical care providers.
    • ACLS Initial Provider – Comprehensive course for first-time ACLS certification.
    • ACLS Recertification – Renewal course for experienced providers.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Experienced Provider (ACLS-EP): Aimed at seasoned healthcare professionals involved in the management of complex cardiovascular, respiratory, and other emergencies, such as physicians, nurses, and paramedics in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units.

Pediatric Emergency Care

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Targeted at healthcare providers who initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies, including pediatricians, emergency physicians, family physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and others.
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS): Geared towards healthcare providers such as emergency medical technicians (EMTs), medical and surgical nurses, school nurses, and others who infrequently encounter critically ill infants and children but need to develop skills in emergency evaluation and initial stabilization.
    • PALS Initial Provider – Full certification for new PALS providers.
    • PALS Recertification – Renewal course for experienced pediatric providers.
  • Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) – Specialized training for prehospital pediatric emergency care.

Trauma & Prehospital Emergency Care

  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS): Designed for EMS providers to enhance their knowledge and skills in assessing and treating trauma patients in prehospital settings.
  • Advanced Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) - Medical Life Support (AMLS): Teaches rapid assessment and treatment of medical emergencies.
  • AMLS/PHTLS Instructor - Certification for individuals training others in emergency trauma care.

Instructor & Public Safety Courses

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor Courses - These courses enables you to teach life-saving courses such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Heartsaver® programs. The process involves several key steps to ensure you're well-prepared to deliver effective training.

Heartsaver Courses

  • Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED—An American Heart Association (AHA) course designed for individuals who need basic training in first aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use. It is ideal for school staff, coaches, childcare providers, trainers, and members of the general public who may need to assist in medical emergencies, injuries, or cardiac events involving adults, children, and infants.
  • Heartsaver® Pediatric First Aid CPR AED—An American Heart Association (AHA) course designed specifically for individuals who work with or care for infants and children. It provides essential training on how to respond to medical emergencies, injuries, and cardiac events in pediatric settings.
