Course Delivery Options

Girl holding sign stating we're all about choices!Johnston Community College offers several options for online course delivery. Course formats include fully online, hybrid, and blended. All courses are equal to other courses in credit hours, academic rigor, and student requirements. For non-credit online courses, we offer over 300 courses via ed2go.

Online allow students access to courses 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via our Blackboard Learn course management system. All course activities, assignments, discussions and testing is provided in a 100% online environment. Students should expect to devote the same amount of time to an online course that they would spend in a face-to-face course. Online courses can either be synchronous (meaning you videoconference live with your class at a set time during the week) or asynchronous (meaning you can complete classwork from any location, at any time, as long has you meet the course requirements for deadlines and participation).

Hybrid courses combine traditional face-to-face classroom instruction with an online learning component via Blackboard Learn. Students meet on campus for lectures, and 51% or more of work is completed online, independently away from campus. Mandatory face-to-face meeting times are assigned as well as mandatory work online. The goal is to combine the best features of seated instruction with the flexibility of online to promote learning.

Blended courses also combine traditional face-to-face classroom instruction with an online learning component via Blackboard Learn. Students meet on campus for lectures, and 50% or less of work is completed online, independently away from campus. Mandatory face-to-face meeting times are assigned as well as mandatory work online. Again, the goal is to combine the best features of seated instruction with the flexibility of online to promote learning.

ed2go online courses offer over 300 non-credit continuing education courses designed to improve employment and job-related skills.
