College Transfer Degree Descriptions
Associate of Arts Degree
The Associate of Arts degree is designed for students planning to complete an associate
degree and the general education requirements before transferring into a bachelor’s
degree program at one of North Carolina’s public universities. Students who graduate
and transfer under this agreement will be considered a Junior at their respective
University. Although the AA provides an excellent structure for many students, it
may not be ideal for everyone. In particular, depending on the students intended program
of study at the university it may not articulate well with majors such as engineering,
science, and the fine and performing arts. Students contemplating such majors should
consult with an adviser to discuss recommended courses on their Baccalaureate Degree
Plan.
Associate of Science Degree
The Associate of Science is an associate degree that is intended to prepare students
to transfer and major in areas such as the sciences, mathematics, fine and performing
arts, and engineering at one of North Carolina’s public universities. In selecting
courses for this degree, students are highly encouraged to consult with an adviser
as well as the institution in which they intend to transfer in order to determine
if it is an appropriate choice.
