While the JCC campus is closed, students are encouraged to utilize the college's online tutoring service, SmarThinking, which is available via each BlackBoard course under the Tools link. SmarThinking offers scheduled tutoring, drop-in tutoring, submit a question tutoring, and a Writing Center which includes essay review. Students should keep in mind that these services are limited to 8 hours per student; however, SmarThinking also offers a wealth of videos and other links that are not tutor-based and do not count toward the 8-hour maximum. Students utilizing SmarThinking should turn-off pop-up blockers before beginning because much of the digital content opens in a new window. Students who need additional assistance navigating SmarThinking should send an email to the Academic Skills Center at jcctutoringcenter@johnstoncc.edu

In addition to SmarThinking, the Academic Skills Center is offering virtual tutoring appointments with the Academic Skills Center's current tutoring staff. Students who would like to register for tutoring appointments should send an email to jcctutoringcenter@johnstoncc.edu. Students are asked to include their telephone number and course in the email. Please note that students will be required to download Skype for Business as the platform for online tutoring.

How to utilize this service while campus is closed

UPDATED: Effective immediately, the Small Business Center, as part of JCC, has assumed an emergency response schedule and will be closed to the public, students and employees through Friday May 1, 2020.

The SBC will assist with your small business needs through phone and email only. We are shifting many of the SBC seminars to on-line. If you are pre-registered, please leave your registration in place, and the SBC will keep in touch. Check this website for changes that include seminar description, date changes, shift to on-line, and more.

We look forward to continuing to assist with your small business needs during this time
