Truck Driver Training Hall of Fame Eligibility Requirements
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Article 1. The N. C. Truck Driver Training School will be referred to as “the school”.
- Article 2. A selection committee will determine which nominee(s) will be inducted into the HALL-OF-FAME each year.
- Article 3. Only instructors of the school will serve on the selection committee.
- Article 4. Each year the selection committee will consist of the three instructors with the earliest service date with the school that are also graduates of the school.
- Article 5. In the event there are not three graduates of the school employed as instructors for the school, any vacancy/vacancies will be filled by the non-graduate instructor(s) with the earliest service date with the school.
- Article 6. The chairman of the selection committee will be the graduate member with the earliest service date with the school. In the event there are no graduate members on the committee, the chairman will be the non-graduate member with the earliest service date with the school.
- Article 7. The chairman of the selection committee will lead the selection process and conduct the induction ceremony each year.
- Article 8. The selection committee will have absolute authority to determine each year’s winner.
- Article 9. The selection committee will be responsible for determining the eligibility of each nominee. Eligibility requirements listed following these articles will become effective simultaneously upon approval of these articles.
- Article10. Each member of the selection committee will have an equal vote.
- Article 11. The selection committee members must agree unanimously upon their choice. In the event a split decision cannot be resolved, an inductee will not be approved for that year.
- Article 12. The selection Process will begin on January 1 and must be completed by April 30 each year. Only instructors of the school will be permitted to be present during a vote by the selection committee.
- Article 13. Inductees will be placed into two categories. Graduates of the school will be referred to as Graduate Members. Non-graduates of the school will be referred to as Honorary Members.
- Article 14. One graduate member will be chosen each year beginning in 1991.
Amendment:
February 28, 2014, In accordance with Article 21, by a unanimous affirmative vote by the instructors of the North Carolina Truck Driver Training School, Article 14 is hereby amended; One, or more, graduate members may be chosen each year commencing in 2014.
- Article 15. One Honorary Member may be chosen every fifth year beginning in 1995, either instead of or in addition to a Graduate Member.
- Article 16. In 1991 the selection committee will nominate and approve the first member to be inducted.
- Article 17. After 1991 the school will accept nominations for consideration, in letter form, from any person or group. This will not preclude the selection committee from also nominating its choice.
- Article 18. A member of the selection committee may not nominate or vote for himself/herself. In the event a member of the selection committee is nominated, that member must be replaced on the committee by the next eligible instructor during a vote for the member nominated.
- Article 19. A metallic plaque on a wooden background bearing the inductee’s name, Graduate Member or Honorary Member as applicable, date of induction, class number and graduation date if applicable, and signatures of the selection committee members, and other inscriptions deemed appropriate by the selection committee, will be permanently mounted in the main classroom of the Smithfield, N.C., Campus of the N.C. Truck Driver Training School. A duplicate plaque will be presented to the member being inducted. In the event the member being inducted is deceased a duplicate plaque will not be made.
- Article 20. The formal induction ceremony will be held at the Old Timers breakfast during the annual North Carolina Truck Driving Championship.
Amendment:
February 28, 2014, In accordance with Article 21, by a unanimous affirmative vote by the instructors of the North Carolina Truck Driver Training School, Article 20 is hereby amended; The formal induction ceremony will be held during the annual North Carolina Truck Driving Championship.
- Article 21. These articles and eligibility requirements may be amended by a unanimous vote of the instructors of the N.C. Truck Driver Training School.
GRADUATE MEMBERS
- Nominee must be a graduate of N.C. Truck Driver Training School.
- Nominee’s graduation date from school must precede induction date by a minimum of 25 years.
- Nominee must have made a significant contribution to the success of the school either directly or by example.
- Nominee must have made a significant contribution to the trucking industry or related field during his/her career.
- Nominee may be either living or deceased.
- Nominee may be either employed or retired.
- Nominee may be an employee or former employee of the school if he/she meets all other requirements.
- Nominee must not have caused the death of any person in any commercial vehicle accident at the time of selection.
HONORARY MEMBERS
- Nominee must have been employed in the trucking industry or related field for a minimum of 25 years prior to induction date. Retirement time or time since death may be included as part of the 25 years.
- Nominee must have made a significant contribution to the success of the N.C. Truck Driver Training School.
- Nominee must have made a significant contribution to the trucking industry or related field during his/her career.
- Nominee may be either living or deceased.
- Nominee may be either employed or retired.
- Nominee may be an employee or former employee of the school if he/she meets all other requirements.
- Nominee may be an agency, organization, company, group, family, or any assemblage that cannot be interpreted as being an individual.
- Nominee must not have caused the death of any person in any commercial vehicle accident at the time of selection.
