Fire Night Academy

The Spring 2025 Night Academy will begin in January 2025

Program Overview:

The Johnston Community College Fire Academy is now offering the Fire Night Academy, a flexible program option that prepares cadets for careers in the fire service.

Upon completion of the ten month Fire Academy, cadets will receive the following International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) certifications through the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal, Fire and Rescue Commission:

  • Firefighter NFPA 1001, 2019 edition
  • Hazardous Materials Operations NFPA 1072, 2017 edition

Cadets will participate in classroom instruction including Traffic Incident Management (TIMS), Emergency Medical Care (EMC), hands on training, and physical conditioning in a structured environment. Our purpose is to instill integrity, discipline, character, and credibility while learning the fundamentals of being a firefighter.

Full participation is required for successful Firefighter Certification completion and Academy Graduation.

If the candidate drops out of the program at any time, FIP course credit will be given at the state level for all courses successfully completed.
Re-enrollment in the academy is not an option.

  • Cadets must have a High School diploma or GED to attend the academy
  • Required books:

  • Laptops or computer access recommended but not required.
  • Cadets are recommended to be affiliated with a Fire Department or Emergency Services agency with firefighting duties, or provide their own personal protective equipment that meets NFPA standards.
  • Unaffiliated students must have PPE to include SCBA. Rental of PPE and SCBA is available.

Cost(s)/Fee(s):

The fee for this course is $180.00 per block for students NOT affiliated with a Fire Department.
