Instructor Certificate
The cosmetology Instructor curriculum provides a course of study for learning the
skills needed to teach the theory and practice of cosmetology as required by the North
Carolina Board of Cosmetic Arts.
Course work includes requirements for becoming an instructor, introduction to teaching
theory, methods and
aids, practice teaching, and development of evaluation instruments.
Graduates of the program may be employed as cosmetology instructors in public or private
education and
business.

COS 271 - Instructor Concepts I
This course introduces the basic cosmetology instructional concepts. Topics include
orientation, theories of education, unit planning, daily lesson planning, laboratory
management, student assessment, record keeping, and other related topics. Upon completion,
students should be able to identify theories of education, develop lesson plans, demonstrate
supervisory techniques, and assess student performance in a classroom setting.

of assessment tools, record keeping, and other related topics. Upon completion, students

student performance in a classroom setting, and keep accurate records.

COS 274 - Instructor Practicum II
This course is designed to develop supervisory and instructional skills for teaching
advanced cosmetology students in a laboratory setting. Topics include practical demonstrations,
supervision, and advanced student assessment. Upon completion, students should be
able to demonstrate competence in the areas covered by the Instructor Licensing Examination
and meet program completion requirements.
