Additional Program Information
Degree Program: Associate's in Applied Science: Cosmetologist Curriculum: 1500 hours in the cosmetology program, completion of the NC State Board required performances, and fifteen additional general education credit hours.
Diploma Program: Cosmetologist Curriculum: 1500 hours in the cosmetology program, completion of the
NC State Board required performances, and additional related courses; college orientation
course, communication skills and psychology.
Certificate Program:Cosmetologist Curriculum: 1500 hours in the cosmetology program, completion of the NC State Board required performances,
and additional related courses.
A.A.S., diploma, or certificate choices have no bearing on the skills taught in the college. Graduates of the program are skilled in hair styling, hair cutting, sculptured nails technology, skin care, permanent waving and relaxing, and hair color. Upon completion of the program and after attaining a passing score on the State Board Exam, graduates are qualified to work in cosmetology salons and related businesses throughout North Carolina.
Uniform Policy
- Black scrub top
- Black scrub pants (appropriate length)
- Black socks or hose
- Black leather tennis shoes or nursing shoes (black Crocs™ accepted - without holes preferred)
- Black uniform jacket and/or smock* (aprons accepted - black only)
- Nametag - requirements:
- Silver with black text
- JCC logo
- Student's first and last name
- COS 111-118: "Cosmetology" below student name
- COS 3101: "Nail Technician" below student name
*Due to sanitation rules and regulations, outside coats and/or sweaters cannot be worn. Layering under the student's scrub top with black shirts is allowed. In addition, no hooded tops are allowed.
