Program Description

Students with a creative spirit and a passion for digital media should consider Johnston Community College’s Digital Media Technology Degree.  JCC has partnered with Industry experts to help fill the growing demand in this exciting field.  This all-new degree prepares students for entry-level jobs in digital design and multimedia occupations. These positions include but are not limited to: Graphic & Visual Designer, Social Media Specialist, Web Designers, Marketing Coordinator and Digital Marketer. 

Course work includes digital media concepts such as graphic design, multimedia applications, user interface design, and content strategy. Skills related to the application of these concepts are developed through the study and use of the Adobe suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, as well as, applications like WordPress, YouTube, and Social Media sites.

New students should complete the College Admissions process.  Current students should meet with their Academic Advisor for consultation. Technology requirements: Students should have access to a computer with the minimum requirements listed below:

  • 12 GB RAM
  • 512 GB Hard Drive
  • Core i5 or AMD FX 4300 Ryzen processor
  • Webcam

The Digital Media Technology program is available to both traditional colleges students and dual enrollment high School Students.  Individuals with a passion for technology and a creative spirit should consider a career in Digital Media. No prior technology skills are required.

Individuals with Digital Media Technology skills are in high demand.  Employers in the Raleigh-Durham region along with Johnston County are projected to continue hiring additional graduates for entry-level positions for the coming years.  Positions include, but are not limited to: Web Designers, Graphic Artist/Designers, Multimedia Specialist and Digital Media Specialist, and Animation Specialist.

Per NC Department of Commerce, Occupational data projects nearly 20,000 job openings in the Raleigh-Durham/Johnston County area alone.  The demand for graduates of an AAS degree in Digital Media Technology will continue to grow compared to all occupations across Raleigh-Durham and Johnston County area.
