Support the JoCo RoBos
Dear friend in the community,
JOCO ROBOS is a county wide high school robotics team proudly hosted by the Associate in Engineering Program at Johnston Community College. This year's team is composed of high school students from multiple local schools
and home school programs. These students make executive, technical, financial, strategic
and operational decisions that mirror those of successful engineering companies, priming
them for careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Using key skills
our students will design and construct a robot in a six week period and compete in
the NC Regional FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC).
The ROBOS are in their second year with FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of
Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. FRC is a worldwide event encompassing
over 4,000 teams and 75,000+ students. FIRST® was founded by Dean Kamen, inventor
of the Segway™. His vision is to inspire an appreciation of science and technology
in young people. Mr. Kamen has inspired our students to excel in robotics.
What makes the JOCO ROBOS unique is our partnership with Johnston Community College
and its Engineering program. Our students are able to design, fabricate, assemble
and test robots in a state-of-the-art engineering facility with mentors and coaches
pulled from the instructional faculty, current engineering students and local industry,
including Caterpillar, SAS, NC Department of Transportation and Morris & Associates.
We hope you will consider a donation to support this effort and help us provide this
important opportunity to the engineers, scientist and business professionals of tomorrow.
