State Environmental Quality Secretary Visits JCC

Michael S. Regan, secretary of the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality, toured
the Johnston County Workforce Development Center on Monday.
During his visit, Regan learned about the College’s biotechnology programs, partnerships with local industries Novo Nordisk and Grifols, and plans to renovate the WDC to include more training space for area industries. He also heard student testimonials from two graduates of the BioWork program.
As DEQ secretary, Regan oversees the state agency whose mission is to protect North Carolina’s environment and natural resources. The organization has offices from the mountains to the coast and administers regulatory public assistance programs aimed at protecting the quality of North Carolina’s air, water and land, its coastal fisheries, and the public’s health.
