JCC Expands Degree Programs for JCPS Innovative High Schools

Published: February 4. 2022

Three new degree programs for dual enrolled students next fall.

Johnston Community College has expanded its partnership with Johnston County Public Schools to provide more degree opportunities for students attending Early College Academy (ECA) and the Career & Technical Leadership Academy (CTLA). Both innovative high schools are housed on JCC’s main campus.

This expansion includes new pathways leading to degrees in pre-nursing, teacher preparation, and mechanical engineering technology. Dr. Linda Smith, vice president of instruction at JCC, commented, “We are truly excited to see ECA and CTLA expand these opportunities for students. These new degree options will give students a clear pathway to transfer credit and in demand careers. Plus, our JCC campus environment provides an array of opportunities, activities and facilities that supplements the student’s high school experience.”

"Johnston County Public Schools is always excited to engage with our partners to provide our students with new and exciting learning opportunities that are tied to promising careers," said Dr. Nicholas King, chief academic officer for JCPS. "This expansion of programs at JCC is exactly the kind of opportunity that will help us build a stronger community and brighter futures for our students."

The Career and Technical Leadership Academy is a five-year high school for students wishing to complete their high school diploma while earning a college-level Career and Technical degree.  Degrees are available in six areas: Early Childhood Education, Applied Engineering, Information Technology, Nurse Aide and Paralegal Technology, and now, Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Early College Academy is a five-year high school for students wishing to complete their high school diploma while earning a college transfer degree in Associate in Arts, Associate in Science or Associate in Engineering. ECA will now offer the Associate in General Education in Pre-Nursing and the Associate in Science or Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation.
