New Career Center Opens in Wilson Building

ccnCenter is a job placement resource for JCC students and area employers.

Johnston Community College is pleased to announce the opening of its Career Services Center.

The center provides a variety of services to help students develop job search skills and locate employment. The center is located in the Wilson Building, Room 1034, just across from Student Services.

Career Center staff assist students with resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, career exploration, career counseling and planning, networking, and work-based learning. Students can also upload and update their resume in College Central Network, an online tool that links employers with prospective student and alumni job candidates.

The center is also an on-campus resource for local employers to recruit students for jobs. Staff can assist employers in scheduling times to interview students on the JCC campus for job and internship opportunities. The center will also be sharing job opportunities on Twitter at @JCCCareers.

Students and local employers are invited to attend an Open House on Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to see the center and learn more about the services offered.

"We are so excited to offer this service to our students," says Joy Callahan, dean of economic and workforce development. "JCC has always offered classes in career development, but now we will be able to reach more students on a regular basis. Instead of employers having to call the college and find the program area for the type of student they are hiring, there is now one contact who will be able to assist regardless of the type of major or skill set."

To learn more about the Career Services @ JCC, follow @JCCCareers on Twitter or stop by the center and talk with a Career Center staff member.
