Johnston Community College’s own Chef Robbie Carver helped judge this year’s state finals for the Beef Char-Grill competition held at NC State University’s Beef Unit Laboratory. The contest is managed by the North Carolina 4-H Program through NC Cooperative Extension and sponsored by the North Carolina Cattlemen’s Beef Council.

Chef Robbie teaches Culinary Arts at JCC’s Arboretum, as well as puts on Summer Camps for kids who want to learn more about cooking. He has judged the Beef Char-Grill competition for the last 4 years and says, “It’s great to talk ‘food’ with the young people interested in 4H and maybe even in being a chef.”

This year’s Char-Grill state finals winners were: Abby Bradley of Edgecombe County in the 11 to 13 year-old age bracket for her Cilantro Lime Denver Steak and Christian Stebe of Rowan County in the 14 to 18 year-old category for their Honey Spiced Rubbed NY Strip.

If you, or the young folks in your life, also have interest in the culinary arts please contact Chef Robbie at  rfcarver@johnstoncc.edu or (919) 209-2127 for more information about the opportunities we have to offer at Johnston Community College.
