Upcoming Employability Classes at JCC

careercenterWorking Smart class begins Feb. 6.

Johnston Community College is offering these upcoming employability skills courses (Human Resources Development). Registration fees are fee-waived for individuals who are unemployed, received notice of pending layoff, working and eligible for Federal Earned Income Tax Credit (FEIT) or working and earn wages at or below two hundred percent (200%) of the federal poverty guidelines.

Digital Literacy Certificate – 33 hours
The goal of this class is to teach and assess basic computer concepts and skills so that people can use computer technology in everyday life to develop new social and economic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities.
Date: January 30 – March 6, Mondays & Wednesdays
Time: 6 – 9 p.m.
Location: Elsee Building Room A164, main campus

Skills for Success – 3 hours
Get encouraged by the motivational instructor and find the one thing you might be missing in your job search! Great resume tips, learn how to transfer your skills and communicate them during your interview, on your resume and job application, and in your 60 second elevator pitch.
Date: 1/26, 2/9, 2/23, 3/9, 3/23
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Location: NC Works Career Center, Clayton

Direct Care Basics – 81 hours
This course introduces you to the necessary skills and responsibilities of the personal and home care professional, what it takes to be a direct care worker, and how to get and keep a job. Building on those skills to include in home management and personal care tasks using limited assistance. Module 10 is taught by an experienced RN instructor. Students will receive six hours of health care provider CPR in this class.
Date: Feb. 7 – May 11, Tuesdays and Thursdays
Time: 6 – 9 p.m.
Location: Health Building, Room F232, main campus

Working Smart Training – 24 hours
During the training, students and job seekers will master the skills that employers know to be crucial for job success. In this free course, you will learn more about: communication skills, problem solving skills, time management, accountability, and more. If you are interested in increasing your chance for employment and promotion, Working Smart Training is the session for you. Receive a certificate of completion endorsed by Capital Area Workforce Development Board.
Date: Feb 6 - 16, Mon. - Thurs. (2 weeks)
Time: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Location: Wilson Building, Room C2019, main campus

Employability Skills Labs
Need to create a resume, cover letter or learn how to complete online job applications? Need to brush up on interview techniques or practice on KeyTrain for your National Career Readiness Certificate/Workkeys test? The Employability Skills Lab in the Career Services Center is an open lab where you can work at your own pace with an instructor to fulfill your goals and career objectives.
Date: Jan 10 – March 30, Tuesdays and Thursdays
Time: 1 – 4 p.m.
Location: JCC Career Services Center, main campus
