New Student Success Center Opens at JCC

Center serves as a one-stop shop for students.
The new Student Success Center at Johnston Community College is officially open and serving students.
The center is a comprehensive one-stop shop, enhancing the front-door and onboarding experience for new and current students.
Located in the Tart Building in the heart of JCC’s main campus, the center integrates and houses a variety of student services including advising, campus tours, career services, counseling, disability support, financial aid information, new student orientation, placement testing and admissions assistance, registration assistance, and transfer services.
The $8 million renovation which started in July 2018 was funded through a combination
of state bond, county bond, county capital allocations, and private donations.
The center includes a spacious, computer area for students to apply to the college, complete the FAFSA, schedule advising appointments and register for classes as well as a large testing center for students to take any necessary pre-admissions tests.
Career Services is also located within the center, offering students guidance and assistance with career exploration during the enrollment process.
The renovation included a redesign of the building entrance as well as the creation of a new plaza with a covered walkway, tables, and bench seating for students and employees to study and gather. The rear of the building now features additional patio space for visitors.
“We are so grateful for the support from our community, county leaders, and friends of the college which enabled us to create the Student Success Center,” said Dr. David Johnson, JCC president. “We are thrilled to open this beautiful addition to our campus as we strive to achieve student success.”
The Paul A. Johnston Auditorium, which is also housed within the Tart Building, remains under renovation. Upgrades including new lighting, flooring, seating, drapery, and stage rigging are expected to be complete by summer 2020.
