Two Engineering Students are Goodnight Scholar Finalists

JCC students were selected from over 200 candidates.
Two Johnston Community College engineering students are finalists for the Goodnight Scholars Program Transfer Class of 2022 at N.C. State University.
Hampton Moore of Selma and Keith Parker of Clayton are among the 32 finalists who will participate in the program’s Transfer Finalist Interview Day on April 27 at James B. Hunt Jr. Library on NC State’s Centennial Campus. These finalists will interview to join the Goodnight Scholars Program’s Transfer Class of 2022 for the 2019-2020 academic year.
“We are excited to welcome these finalists to our 2nd Annual Transfer Finalist Interview Day,” said Allison Medlin, director of the Goodnight Scholars Program. “Last year’s interview day was such a special event, and we’re delighted to continue this new Program tradition with such a talented group of finalists. Our goal is to share with them the vast array of opportunities available to them here at NC State, and give them helpful information as they prepare for the transition to campus life.”
Finalists were selected from a pool of over 200 candidates from across North Carolina representing 41 North Carolina community colleges. Finalists were scored by an application review committee consisting of current and former NC State faculty and staff, SAS Institute Emerging Leaders, Kenan Fellows, and Goodnight Scholars alumni. Each finalist demonstrated exceptional accomplishments in their community college careers including stellar academic achievement, community involvement, and inspiring goals for success in the STEM or STEM education fields.
The Goodnight Scholars Program targets North Carolina residents from low- and middle-income families who aspire to study in a science, technology, engineering, mathematics or STEM education discipline at NC State. The value of the scholarship is $20,000 and is renewable for up to four years for first-year students ($80,000 total), and three years for transfer students ($60,000 total). In addition to the scholarship, Goodnight Scholars have access to an assortment of developmental programming focused on their professional and personal growth.
