The three-semester continuing education program is designed to teach students the skills they need to work in a professional salon. The bilingual program will be taught by both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking instructors. A required English as a Second Language (ESL) class is built into the program to ensure Spanish-speaking students are successful in passing the N.C. State Board exam.

From Jan. 10 until June 21, the program will meet Thursday and Fridays from 3 until 10:45 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 4:45 p.m.

Completers of the program will be skilled in hairstyling, haircutting, sculptured nail technology, skin care, permanent wave and relaxing, and hair color. After students pass the state board exam, they are qualified to work in cosmetology salons and related businesses in North Carolina.

The program is estimated to cost about $1,900. Students may qualify for scholarship opportunities.

JCC also offers an associate’s degree and diploma in cosmetology, an instructor certificate as well as continuing education courses in esthetics and manicuring.
