Warren is JCC’s Staff Person of the Year

She served as TRIO director for the past eight years.
Ask Dr. Carrol Warren her leadership vision, and she'll quickly say it's students first.
As the TRIO director at JCC for the past eight years, Warren truly cares about students and it shows. That's why she was named this year's Rudolph A. Howell Outstanding Staff Award recipient by her peers at JCC.
"I'm a firm believer in the program; it definitely works," she said. "TRIO can really be a transformative experience if the students allow it to be."
TRIO is a federally-funded program through the U.S. Department of Education that provides counseling and tutoring as well as offers study skills workshops, financial aid planning, and college transfer assistance to eligible students.
Warren came to JCC in 2005 as a counselor in Student Support Services and after three years became director. She successfully led the JCC TRIO program through two grant cycles and has also helped launch the college's Crisis, Assessment, Response, and Evaluation (CARE) Team, a program that helps students in crisis or those experiencing troubling or threatening behaviors.
Warren loves to share the many accomplishments of TRIO students. Many are honor society students, have received outstanding student awards, and have coordinated numerous community service projects such as food and clothing collection drives, Box Tops for school supplies, and others.
"Lots of people go unrecognized," Warren says. "The best part of my job has been seeing those shy students enter JCC and watching them graduate with such confidence while being recognized for their success."
Warren has taken on a new professional challenge at JCC. Recently, she was named the College's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) administrator. She says she is excited about the new opportunity but will definitely miss being a part of TRIO.
"I will definitely miss the students and staff, but I'm looking forward to serving the college in a different capacity and getting to know more of the faculty," she said.
Warren earned her bachelor's degree from Meredith College. She also earned a master's from the University of Texas at Austin and most recently her doctorate from N.C. State University. She lives in Newton Grove with her husband, Brian. She attends Goshen United Methodist Church and loves to decorate and cook in her spare time.
