Sonography students at Johnston Community College attended the North Carolina Ultrasound Society annual conference recently and took home several awards.
The JCC Cardiovascular Sonography Quiz Bowl Team won the Cardiac Quiz Bowl. Kerry Carlon of Clayton, Rebekah De La Cruz of Eastover, and Cheri McDonald of Cary participated.
McDonald also won second place for her scientific exhibit "Pacemakers." Andrea Overby of Clayton won second place for her scientific exhibit "Cystic Hygroma."
"We are so excited about the professionalism and knowledge that the quiz bowls teams and scientific exhibit winners demonstrated at the symposium," said Cathy Daniels, director of sonography programs at JCC. "All of the students represented JCC with honor and respect. This symposium was an excellent opportunity for learning about new trends in sonography and networking in the sonography profession."
Emily Bouchard of Smithfield, a first-year medical sonography student, was selected to serve as a student mentee in the NCUS for the upcoming year.
"Emily is a very talented first-year student who is doing well as an apprentice in the N.C. Ultrasound Society's Mentoring Program," Daniels said. "She works very hard as a student mentee and is a role model for sonography students everywhere."
