Johnston Community College is pleased to announce Dr. Darryl McGraw as the new vice president of administration, financial, and information technology resources.
A Whiteville native, McGraw most recently worked as vice chancellor of information technology and chief information officer at North Carolina A&T State University. Prior to that position, he worked as the chief information officer at Wake Tech Community College and as the associate vice president for instructional development and technology with the North Carolina Community College System.
At JCC, McGraw serves as the college's chief financial officer providing leadership in planning, organizing, and directing financial operations as well as management in the areas of human resources, information technology, facilities and construction management, auxiliary services, and campus safety and security.
A product of the North Carolina Community College System, McGraw says he is most of proud of his associate's degree from Southeastern Community College. He also holds a bachelor of science degree in computer science from N.C. State University; a master's degree in business administration from Campbell University; and a doctorate in education from N.C. State University. He also has received post graduate certifications from Harvard University and the Institute of Government at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
McGraw is a former JCC employee, serving three years at the college early in his career as a dean of information technology. He says he's excited to be back in Smithfield and be a part of the effort to implement a new master plan that aims to transform the college into a 21st-century campus over the next five to 10 years.
"Already I've found that the quality of the people who work at this college is above that of most other colleges and universities in the state," McGraw said. "This is evidenced by JCC's inclusion in the competition for the Aspen Prize and our results on the performance indicators as judged by the North Carolina Community College System."
"I'm excited to work with many of my old friends and colleagues as we improve upon and build the facilities at the college and make it a centerpiece of education for the students and community that we serve," he added.
Dr. David Johnson, JCC president, said he is excited about the higher education management and information technology knowledge McGraw brings to JCC.
"We are thrilled to welcome Dr. McGraw to the JCC family," Johnson said. "We look forward to his ideas and management in the areas of administration, finances, and information technology as we continue to develop JCC into the preferred choice of education and workforce training in our Johnston County community."
McGraw, and his wife, Roxanna, live in Raleigh. In his spare time, he likes to run and exercise. "That's how I get to eat so much Hawaiian food," McGraw jokes.
