Sonography Students Recognized for Excellence

Second-year sonography students at Johnston Community College attended the N.C. Ultrasound Symposium March 13-15 in Wilmington and brought home several awards.

JCC's Cardiovascular Quiz Bowl Team and the Medical Sonography Quiz Bowl Team placed second. In the general sonography category, Virginia Wallace's scientific exhibit on ergonomics and repetitive strain injuries won first place and Amanda Shafer's scientific exhibit on microbubbles in sonography won second place. In the cardiovascular sonography category, Deborah McBride's scientific exhibit on aortic dissection won first place and Delee Whitaker's scientific exhibit on left ventricular assist device placed third.

Also, lead instructor Steven Penny presented two registry review lectures during the event.

"I am so proud of Steven and our second-year students," said Cathy Daniels, program director. "They did a fabulous job and represented JCC so well."
