JCC Chorus Showcases Vocal Talents

Students perform national anthem at Mudcats game.

The Johnston Community College Chorus finished up a successful year with several outstanding performances.

Under the direction of Darla Peedin of Pine Level, the JCC Chorus sang the national anthem on May 5 at the Carolina Mudcats game. The 29-member chorus auditioned and was selected for the opportunity to sing at Five County Stadium after a rigorous audition process. The chorus also performed a spring concert in May and provided the special music at the National Technical Honor Society induction in late April.

"These music students have worked so hard this semester preparing for these wonderful experiences," Peedin said. "They did an amazing job, and I am so proud of them," Peedin said.

Peedin taught public school music for 30 years with Johnston County Schools. She received her bachelor of science degree in music from Atlantic Christian College, now Barton College. She received National Board Status in Music Education and received her master of music degree from East Carolina University.

Johnston Community College Chorus is a class that consists of musicians and non-musicians that enjoy performing and singing. The class meets twice a week and works toward learning repertoire that enhances the musicality and for the enjoyment of the audience.
