Johnston Community College's Mario Hobbs of Selma has been busy honing his leadership skills.
Hobbs participated in the North Carolina Community College System's Student Leadership Development Program (SLDP) June 7-12 at William Peace University in Raleigh. During the week-long summer session, Hobbs attended workshops, worked on group projects, and learned about developing partnerships, networking, team building, budgeting, conflict resolution and other leadership qualities that he plans to bring back and share with his fellow students at JCC.
Hobbs is JCC's 2015-16 vice president of the Student Government Association. He served as SGA treasurer in 2014-15. He is also treasurer of the North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association (N4CSGA), is the president of the National Society of Leadership and Success at JCC, and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
"As a 2015-16 SLDP participant, not only have I experienced leadership skills, but I have also learned valuable lessons such as the importance of encouragement and good listening skills," Hobbs says.
"By being a participant of this unique program I can use the information I have gathered from seminars and critical thinking workshops. I hope to enhance my knowledge and to become a better leader on my campus."
Keep up the good work Mario!
