New Student Orientation

Step by Step Guide to access the New Student Orientation

Our Virtual New Student Orientation (NSO) experience, will be self-paced and includes information related to both academic resources and engagement opportunities.Students can complete the orientation after they have set up their JCC Account or without one. Directions for both a included below.

Module 1 of NSO, Jaguar Onboarding, is a mandatory orientation takes approximately 30 – 45 minutes to complete.  Students are expected to complete all of the content fully in order to receive their Jaguar Onboarding Certificate of Completion.

If you are taking any online courses or if you are new to using our learning management system, Blackboard Learn, you are strongly encouraged to complete Modules 2 – 4 of NSO.  Students that complete all of the content fully earn a JCC Student Orientation for Blackboard and Online Learning digital badge. 

Instructions for new students with an official JCC email who have already set up their JCC Portal account.

Step 1: Log into your JCC Portal account.

Step 2: Click the box that states "New Student Orientation" with a blue outline and our mascot, Jagger.

Step 3: From the Blackboard home page, click the "Access the New Student Orientation Course” link.

 Note: If do not see New Student Orientation at the top of the Blackboard home page, scroll down to JCC Student Resources section.  Click on “New Student Orientation” tab.  Click the “Access the New Student Orientation Course” link.

Step 4: Begin with “START HERE: About This Course” section.  Read and follow the instructions given to complete your orientation.

Instructions for new students who do not yet have an official JCC email.

New students that do not yet have an official JCC email account (ending with “johnstoncc.edu”) will need to log in as a guest.

Step 1: Go to JCC Blackboard Learn site

Step 2: Follow the instructions on the Blackboard Learn Sign-in Page for new students without an account.  If you are a new student without an account, please use the username and password "guest" to access the New Student Orientation.

Step 3: From the Blackboard Guest home page, click the "Access the New Student Orientation Course” link.

Step 4: Begin with “START HERE: About This Course” section.  Read and follow the instructions given to complete your orientation.
