It is essential to understand that meeting the program's educational criteria might not be the sole requirement for licensure. BLET licensure requirements vary by state and other individual factors; credentials, training, job experience, criminal history or military service. Student applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. There are no state program requirements standardized across all 50 states for the BLET program. After successful completing BLET, the student may be eligible to take the cumulative State exam which is mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the North Carolina Sheriff's Education and Training Standards Commission to receive certification as a probationary law enforcement officer to apply for hire at a law enforcement agency. Some states still require their state exam for reciprocity, so it is suggested a student check with the state in question before taking the program.
