The provided table helps in determining if this program fulfills the educational requirements for licensure in the specific states, provinces, or territories listed. In the "Does This Program Meet State Educational Requirements?" column, each state's status is indicated as either “Meets State Educational Requirements,” “Does Not Meet State Educational Requirements,” or "Does Not License.”  Each entry in the table is tailored to the particular state corresponding to that row.

It is essential to understand that meeting the program's educational criteria might not be the sole requirement for licensure. Additional prerequisites might include being listed on a registry, passing background checks, or satisfying certain physical standards. Therefore, students should consult the relevant agency to ascertain the full spectrum of requirements beyond educational accomplishments.

Vehicle safety inspectors must earn a certification or license in his state to practice. Each state sets its own requirements for becoming a certified or licensed vehicle safety inspector, but all generally have similar qualifications. Each state requires the inspector to submit an application for licensure or certification that includes basic biographical and employment information, as well as documentation of education, experience or training courses. Additionally, a vehicle safety inspector must be 17 or 18 years old, depending on the state. He should be able to read, write and understand English in order to fill out inspection reports and certificates. Each state has its own manual of regulations covering vehicle inspections that an inspector must read and review before taking a certification test. Once the inspector earns the license, he may have to maintain it by reapplying every one to three years. Other requirements include no felonies on record in the past five years and a valid driver’s license.

Program is designed to meet the training and licensing requirements (initial and/or renewal) for the Vehicle Safety Inspection Program administered by the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles, License, and Theft Bureau. Upon completion, a student will understand the rules, regulations, and procedures for conducting a vehicle safety inspection; be able to inspect a vehicle properly; and be prepared to sit for the state certification exam. Some states still require their state exam for reciprocity, so it is suggested a student check with the state in question before taking the program.
