10:30 – 12:00 Low Ropes Course
The low ropes course is designed to focus on leadership skills. It incorporates teamwork,
strength,
agility, communication, and quick thinking.
Activity: Campers will work together to complete various tasks and obstacles!
12:00pm – 1:00 LUNCH BREAK!

Your child will have an hour to eat, but most children will only need 30 minutes;
therefore there
will be extra time for self-exploration / free time!
1:00 – 3:00 Split into Groups
Indoor – Nature Journals
Campers will create their own nature journals using recycled materials!
Outdoor – Tie-Dye
Campers will have a chance to tie-dye their camp shirts however they like!
3:00 – 3:30 Snack

Campers will learn how to identify many of the trees and plants in our area by growth,
habit, form,
bark, and leaf shapes.
Activity: Campers will go on a hike using their i-Dials to identify local species.
12:00pm – 1:00 LUNCH BREAK!

After an intro on raptors, campers get to dissect owl pellets to take home!
Outdoor – Signs of Wildlife
Campers will get to create their own animal track mold to take home!

Geocaching is a treasure hunting game where you use a GPS device (or a smartphone)
to hide and
seek containers with other participants.
Activity: Campers will learn the basics of using hand-held GPS units to find hidden items
on the
Howell Woods property.

Campers will have a chance to learn more about our resident reptiles, including meeting
them!
Outdoor – The Micro World of Nature
Using hand lenses and microscopes, campers will get to view nature in a new perspective!

10:30 – 12:00 Beginner Fishing
We will compare fresh water to salt water fishing, talk about native species, identify
common
species in Howell Woods’ ponds, and learn how to be a sustainable fisherman.
Activity: Campers will learn all the basics of fishing: how to tie knots, set up a fishing
pole, and
cast to reel in the big one!
If your child has their own fishing gear, they may bring it this day!

1:00 – 3:00 Intro to Kayaking
We will begin on land with safety precautions, how to put on a life jacket, getting
in and out of the
boat, paddling, how to determine safe water, etc. We will then move to the pond where
campers
can put together what they learned on land into the water.
Activity: Campers will learn how to navigate in a kayak, including in the water!
Campers may want to wear a swimsuit or light weight clothing and waterproof shoes
(sandals, crocs, water shoes etc. are approved for this day)
Bring a towel and extra set of clothing!!!

We will go on a group hike within Howell Woods Habitat Diversity Trail System
Activity: Campers will use all knowledge and tools during hike, as well as collecting natural
materials to use for SunPrint paper craft afterwards.

Campers will have a chance to learn more about citizen science and participate in
a statewide
project called ecoEXPLORE!
Outdoor – Howell Woods Property Tour
Campers will get to take truck ride and view parts of the property seldom seen by
others!
4:00 – 4:30 Closing Circle

4:30 – 6:00 End of Camp Cookout
We will provide hot dogs, chips, and drinks
Please bring your favorite side dish to share!
