Paul A. Johnston Auditorium

About the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium

The Paul A. Johnston Auditorium is named for the founding president of Johnston Community College (JCC) and housed in the Tart Building on the JCC campus. John L. Tart was a member of the North Carolina General Assembly and served from 1969 until his retirement in 1998.

The auditorium, while currently in its last phase of renovations, was once home to a wide variety of many live entertainment events that spanned for many years.  Over the last several years it has experienced a facelift and will soon be reopening for educational, rental and entertainment purposes.  Be sure to check back as we near completion, we hope to have many exciting things to announce in the months to come.

The 51,000-square-foot Tart Building includes the auditorium, the SJCCTV studio, media services staff and classroom space for various academic programs. The building is also home to the box office and the Great Hall which is used for a variety of college and public functions. The 1,007-seat auditorium enables JCC to showcase national touring performing arts programs and serves as the site for many local and regional events, such as recitals, pageants, band concerts, lectures, and other special community events.

The Paul A. Johnston Auditorium is available for both ticketed and non-ticketed events. The Great Hall, located in the Tart Building next to the auditorium, is also available for rental in addition to or instead of the auditorium.  There are also other spaces available on the JCC campus that complement these spaces, including the lobby of the Wilson Building, the Frank Creech Art Gallery, the Wilson Student Lounge, and classrooms.
