Cosmetology Evening/Weekend Program

The Cosmetology curriculum is designed to provide English and Spanish-speaking students with hands-on training in a simulated salon environment. Course work includes instructions in all phases of professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multi-cultural practices, business/computer principles, product knowledge, and other selected topics.

Graduates of the program are skilled in hairstyling, haircutting, sculptured nails technology, skin care, permanent waving and relaxing, and hair color. Upon completion of the program and after attaining a passing score on the State Board Exam, graduates are qualified to work in cosmetology salons and related businesses throughout North Carolina.

The program is estimated to cost about $1,900. Students may qualify for scholarship opportunities.

JCC also offers an associate's degree and diploma as well as numerous continuing education courses in cosmetology.

Cosmetology Instructor 

The Cosmetology Instructor curriculum provides a course of study for learning the skills needed to teach the theory and practice of cosmetology as required by the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Arts. 

Course work includes requirements for becoming an instructor, introduction to teaching theory, methods and aids, practice teaching, and development of evaluation instruments.

Graduates of the program may be employed as cosmetology instructors in public or private education and business.

The Cosmetology Instructor Licensing Class is a one semester program. Estimated program cost: $495

Dates: March 9, 2020 - June 18, 2020 (COS 3206 01U: Cosmetology Instructor 1)
Days/Times: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 5:00pm - 11:00pm

Natural Hair Care

This comprehensive course provides instruction and clinical practice in natural hair care. The course content includes instruction in sanitation, bacteriology, disinfection, first aid, shampooing, draping, anatomy, disorders of the hair and scalp, client consultation, and the following natural hair care techniques: twisting, wrapping, extending, locking, blow dry and thermal iron.

The Natural Hair Care Class is a one semester program. Estimated program cost: $665

Manicurist Licensing Class

This comprehensive course provides instruction and clinical practice in manicuring, nail building (application and maintenance of artificial nails) and pedicuring. The course content includes nail anatomy, disorders of nails, and irregularities of nails; theory and salesmanship as it relates to manicuring; actual practice in manicuring; and arm, hand, and foot massage.

Manicurist Licensing Class is a one semester program. Estimated program cost: $973
