Within the diverse community of JCC students, faculty, staff, and community members, we share a culture that binds us in a welcoming and endearing environment. Our partnership of a shared cultural experience is the aggregate of a set of beliefs, values, norms, language, and symbols that we are committed to living out together.
We believe all partners, including students, faculty, staff, and community members, should be treated with respect. Every person deserves to have a safe place where they can be who they are without repercussion or infringement due to their viewpoints or beliefs and should be allowed the opportunity to maximize their potential, both personally and professionally.
We value the unique beliefs, feelings, and potential of all partners. In our culture, we cultivate an environment that encourages and accepts diverse thoughts and opinions and meaningful and respectful collaboration for continuous growth and improvement in every area of campus life. We value an environment of gratefulness where we praise and celebrate one another.
We expect our partners to accept responsibility, and if necessary, the consequences for their words, behaviors, and actions. When we are not sure of expectations, we seek clarification and guidance from each other. We also expect all partners to seek opportunities to improve our community through personal and professional development.
As partners in a shared environment, we humbly listen to understand. We do not attack
others who express diverse or different opinions from our own. We refrain from gossiping and destructive talk. We engage in open and honest discussions in which we seek to appreciate and understand one another fully and respect the different viewpoints we each have.
Symbols of unity and support are essential to our culture. We commit to recognize
diverse community through flags and appropriate signage, respect our partners with special needs by ensuring equitable access to our campus, and encourage our partners to celebrate diverse cultural events together at Johnston Community College.
