Due to current restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Johnston Community College’s main campus and area centers are presently operating with essential employees only. All other employees continue to support the functions of the college by working remotely.
Summer (May 28 – August 3) hours of operation are Monday – Thursday 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Please note, due to teleworking, many JCC employees will not be in their offices during summer hours. If assistance is needed, please call the JCC Switchboard at 919-934-3051 or the appropriate office number as found on the JCC website. Please leave a message if prompted. JCC will return all calls for assistance.
The goal is to be reopened fully with all employees on campus by Monday, August 3.
STUDENTS: Important dates relevant to applying to attend JCC as well as registering for classes can be found in the fall 2020 semester academic calendar.
Instruction is presently being conducted in a primarily online format throughout the summer with a portion of classes requiring face-to-face instruction. Students should check Blackboard and student email accounts to obtain specific directives about classes.
The JCC Barnes and Noble Bookstore is open Monday – Friday from 10 am – 3 pm through June 12. From June 15 – July 30, the hours of operation will be Monday – Thursday from 10 am – 3 pm. Curbside service in the back of the bookstore (enter Jaguar Drive and go to the back of the Wilson Building) will be available for rental returns, buyback, summer semester sales, as well as graduation regalia sales. For the most part, students’ instructional books and materials are being shipped and delivered to students’ personal homes.
Graduation ceremonies will be hosted in the following manner: Drive thru ceremonies are being held on Monday, June 8 – Wednesday, June 10. Graduates have received a detailed letter from the President with specific guidance as well as email communication. Additionally, a virtual ceremony will premiere on Thursday, June 11 beginning at 6:00 p.m.
We look forward to fully returning to campus but must take a cautious approach to protect the health and wellbeing of our campus community. We continue to seek guidance from the Governor’s Executive Orders as well as local and state health officials taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all.
Johnston Community College
Johnston Community College is closely monitoring the Novel Coronavirus based on the latest information available from national and international authorities. As public awareness of the coronavirus increases, we want to be sure you have an accurate understanding of the facts to protect yourself and others against this health threat.
- Face-to-face and in-person courses have moved to an online presence to the greatest extent possible.
- Staff members at Johnston Community College clean classrooms and frequently touched surfaces (e.g., doorknobs, light switches, countertops) daily.
- Posters providing hand cleaning strategies are visible throughout campus.
The signs provide information about washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
- We have enacted our emergency operations plans and JCC will be closed to the public, students and employees through Friday, March 27.
Per the CDC, we recommend the use of disposable cleaning wipes by students, staff, and faculty on commonly used surfaces (e.g., keyboards, desks, remote controls) before each use.
