Camp IMPACT
Camp IMPACT, designed for rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, is a blended line-up of serious and lighter topics. The camp will be held June 21-24, 9am-3pm, at JCC’s Cleveland Center. To register, contact the Cleveland Center at 919-989-2128. The registration fee is $40. Lunch will be provided each day.
The Nature of Science at Howell Woods
This four-day program at Howell Woods offers students the opportunity to investigate the nature of science while participating in interactive learning experiences. Each day, students will utilize the natural habitats that Howell Woods provides and explore ecosystems, animal behavior and adaption, weather and atmosphere, and protecting our waters. Students will participate in nature walks and hands-on activities. The science camp is open to rising 4th and 5th graders. It will be held July 19-22, 9am-2pm, at JCC’s Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center. To register, contact the Community Development & Lifelong Learning registration office at 919-209-2168. Musical Safari
Come explore the depth and scope of music in our world. Begin with an adventure in World Drumming by learning traditional rhythms from West Africa in a collaborative drum circle. Complete the journey by discovering more about Western music theory and practice through creating musical compositions of your own. Instructors will include outstanding artists from the JCC faculty, who will challenge you to listen, imitate, sing, compose, improvise and perform! Musical Safari is open to rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The camp will be held July 19-22, 9am-12pm, in the Graphic Arts Building on the Main Campus in Smithfield. Drama Camp
JCC’s Drama Camp will be held on July 12-16 and 19-23, 9am-5pm, in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium on the Main Campus in Smithfield. Evening performances will be held on July 23 and 24. Participants will design and produce a theatrical production within two weeks. The drama camp is open to ages 12-19. Required auditions will be held on May 5, at 7pm. Sew-a-Little
Students will learn to make a small quilt from beginning to end. Come join the fun quilting like grandma and great-grandma. Sew-a-Little is open to 8-17 year old students. The camp will be held July 20-22, 1-5pm, at the Main Campus in Smithfield, Elsee Bldg., Room 108. Comic Camp (art) - Boys Only
Explore the frame by frame action and suspense of comic book art. This 4-day camp will instruct you on how to design a cover, develop a character, a series of events, create line work, work with color, and carry through a sequential theme for the making of your own comic strip. Comic Camp is open to rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys. It will be held August 2-5, 9am-12pm, at JCC’s Cleveland Center. Crazy Fun Art Collages & Watercolors - Girls Only
Explore creative and inventive ways to make original works of art using collage and watercolor paints. Combine colored magazine paper, glue, paint pens, and matboard to make art mosaics that you will love to hang on your walls or give as incredible gifts to friends. Be ready to experiment and play with color and fun ideas. The art camp is open to rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls. It will be held August 2-5, 1pm-4pm, at JCC’s Cleveland Center.
