The Rotaract Club at JCC is the college’s main service club. Members participate in service both on campus and in the community. In the past several years, the club has held fundraisers and donated considerable funds to a variety of charities including Project Kokoro (for disaster relief in Japan), Salvation Army (for the Adopt-a-Family program), and Alex’s Lemonade Stand (for pediatric cancer research). The club has also supported local charities by providing items needed to better serve their clients. In 2009, the club purchased 8 new bunk beds for the Harbor, Inc. shelter in Smithfield, and they have also held collections for Pizzazz, the Harbor, Inc. thrift store and the Johnston County Mental Health Association. Last year, they helped meet an on-campus need and donated a number of No Parking signs to be used for special events and to ease traffic problems.
In addition to supporting causes members feel passionate about, club members like to have fun! We hold a number of social events and service projects each semester, as a way of getting to know each other and to develop leadership skills necessary for future employment.
The Rotaract Club meets once a week in the North Carolina Room of the LRC. Please contact the club president or advisor for current meeting information.
