Cosmetology

Course work includes instruction in all phases of professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multi-cultural practices, business/computer principles, product knowledge, and other selected topics.

Program Outcomes

The Cosmetology curriculum is designed to provide competency-based knowledge, scientific/artistic principles, and hands-on fundamentals associated with the cosmetology industry. The curriculum provides a simulated salon environment which enables students to develop manipulative skills.

Occupational Outlook

Graduates should qualify to sit for the State Board of Cosmetic Art examination. Upon successfully passing the State Board exam, graduates will be issued a license. Employment is available in beauty salons and related businesses.

Admissions:

2. Read and/or complete and return all information sent to you from Student Services.

Financial Aid:
1. Contact Financial Aid (919) 209-2036 as soon as possible to inquire/apply for any loans, grants, scholarships, etc. Keep track of your Financial Aid status to check for approval. It is important to get approved before the last day to pay so you will not be purged from the computer system.

Additional Program Information

The JCC Cosmetology Salon is open to the public. Advanced students provide services under the careful guidance of instructors.

Degree and Diploma programs are offered in the Cosmetology curriculum and may be completed in up to five semesters:

Degree: Associate's in Applied Science: 1500 hours in the cosmetology program and fifteen additional general education credit hours including college orientation, communication skills, business math and psychology and other related courses.

Diploma: 1500 hours in the cosmetology program and additional related courses; college orientation course, communication skills and psychology

A.A.S. or diploma choices have no bearing on the skills taught in the college. Graduates of the program are skilled in hairstyling, haircutting, sculptured nails technology, skin care, permanent waving and relaxing, and hair color. Upon completion of the program and after attaining a passing score on the State Board Exam, graduates are qualified to work in cosmetology salons and related businesses throughout North Carolina.

 

Uniform Policy

Cosmetology Students:

Black uniform top (Standard V-neck scrubs, design and fabric required); Black uniform pants; Black socks or hose; Black leather tennis shoes or black nursing shoes (black Crocs™ accepted); Black uniform jacket and/or black smock (Aprons accepted - black color only)

*Uniforms can be purchased at local uniform stores, online, or anywhere scrubs are sold. (Cost: varies upon location purchased)

Nametag – Silver with black lettering
JCC college logo, first and last name displayed

COS 111/112: "Beginner Cosmetology" must be engraved below student name

COS 113/114, 115/116, 117/118, 224: "Advanced Cosmetology" must be engraved below student name

Cosmetology Instructor Students:
