The Mammography curriculum provides registered radiologic technologists the didactic and clinical experience necessary to become registered mammographers. 

Program Content 

The mammography certificate is a two semester course offered fall and spring for graduates of an Associate Degree Radiography Program and maintaining ARRT certification in Radiography.  The didactic courses of the program are offered online with the exception of lab.  Lab experiences in the fall semester will be on the JCC campus once a week. Course work includes clinical rotations to mammography facilities, breast anatomy/physiology, patient preparation/education, mammographic procedures, interventional procedures, image analysis, mammographic instrumentation, physics, quality control, and quality assurance.

Clinical Placement Options

Applicants applying to the Mammography Certificate program have the option for a clinical sponsor for clinical placement. 

1.    Program Assigned Clinical – The program will provide a site for clinical course.
2.    Sponsor Assigned Clinical – The student arranges a site for clinical course on their own and provides the completed clinical affiliate sponsor form with program application.  The affiliate will be required to sign an affiliate agreement with the College.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates will meet the Mammography Quality Standards Act initial training requirements for mammography and may be eligible to apply to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) post primary certification in Mammography.  Employment opportunities could be in hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices, imaging centers, or government agencies.

  • Associate Degree in Radiography
  • ARRT certification in Radiography
